Maci's Story

Maci grew up in Northern Michigan and from a young age had a passion for helping others. That passion only grew when her parents decided to become foster parents, opening their home to kids in need. What started as temporary placements turned into lifelong bonds, as her family ended up adopting four of the children they fostered. Seeing firsthand how much stability, love, and support could change a child’s life, Maci knew she wanted to work with kids in some capacity.

Maci went on to attend Grand Valley State University, earning both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work. During school, she got hands-on experience interning at Safe Harbor Children's Advocacy Center, where she worked with CASA volunteers to support kids navigating the foster care system. She also spent time at Samaritas in Grand Rapids, providing home-based therapy for children in foster care as well as supporting youth transition out of foster care.

After graduating, Maci started in the field as a school-based clinician, providing therapy to students dealing with everything from everyday stress to major trauma. In this role, she also became certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), a specialized approach to helping kids heal from difficult experiences. Working in schools gave her a front-row seat to the challenges kids face daily, and it reinforced how important accessible mental health care is for young people.

In private practice, Maci continues to focus on the children and adolescent population. She believes in taking a whole-person approach to mental health, helping kids not only process their past experiences but also build confidence, resilience, and emotional well-being for the future. She’s passionate about creating a safe space where kids feel heard and supported, no matter what they’re going through. Maci is looking forward to walking alongside kids and teens on their mental health journeys, helping them navigate life’s ups and downs with the care and encouragement they deserve.
