Additionally specialized training in Peri-natal thought/mood support and Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma treatment. "Every good therapist needs a good therapist" That is why I recognize above and beyond the importance to break stigmas that may prevent mental and medical providers and first responder from seeking treatment of their own. And while supervision is offered in these fields, it is also important to recognize mental health goes beyond the work we do and can impact our personal lives. We are only human too.

Taking the first step of reaching out to a therapist can feel daunting. Whether you have had something unspeakable happen and know you need extra support during this time, or are in a place to do deeper internal work, I always aim to create an accepting place that meets client’s where they are at. As a client-centered therapist, I believe that us humans are complex and require unique support tailored to our own experiences and goals. My hope as a mental health professional is to create a safe, supportive environment for clients to feel empowered and know they are not alone. I work with children and adults using cognitive behavioral therapy, parts work, mindfulness, TF-CBT, and play therapy techniques. I believe in holistic approaches, examining and working with the different identities that make clients who they are, within the systems they interact with. An analogy I often use with client’s to explain my therapeutic approach is to imagine we are in a car together on a road trip. The client is in the driver seat, steering the wheel and pumping the gas or the brakes when needed, while I am in the passenger seat helping navigate which turns to take to get to our destination, playing the music, and letting you know if I see a car in the lane we are trying to get over to. My hope is that this analogy provides you with a sense of autonomy over what your therapeutic experience looks like, while also having an encouraging, supportive person next to you throughout the journey.

I am clinician that understands that all humans will experience suffering but we will not all have the same burdens to bear. I work with clients who have anxiety, depression, relational issues, and trauma. I aim to be aware of cultural specific issues, macro and micro perspectives, and individual oppression. I am here to walk with you, not lead you. Therapy is a safe space and everyone’s journey is different.

My practice experience is grounded in a relationship based processing style. I work to highlight an individuals strengths and create a safe and comfortable space for clients to process a variety of issues related to grief, loss, depression, anxiety, trauma and family or relationship conflict. I have medical social work experience with a background working in areas of skilled nursing and hospice. My experience working with grief and loss from an individual level and the impact this has on family dynamics and relationships. Prior to this experience I worked as a crisis counselor/rapid response coordinator at a nonprofit during the flint water crisis. I utilize an eclectic approach from a wide range of modalities such as Gottman, Emotion Focused, CBT, mindfulness, ACT and Internal Family Systems. I take a growth-oriented and client-centered approach to explore all aspects of a client’s journey.

Maggie@mindbodysoulutionsllc.com or 616-613-6032
Maggie is a Licensed Professional Counselor who is passionate about providing a counseling experience that goes beyond worksheets to create space to start exploring your deeper feelings and experiences. Her areas of focus include women’s mental health, trauma, chronic suicidality, and providing support when life just feels hard. Maggie specializes in exploring how feelings of shame can impact our daily experiences and influence how we view and relate to ourselves and others. Shame, the insidious feeling of “I feel bad because I am bad” or “something went wrong and I’m to blame”, is often based out of trauma and pain. Maggie works to bring awareness to how it might be impacting you and your mental health symptoms, how to challenge it, and how to grow beyond always feeling like you did something wrong. Maggie often brings humor and moments of lightheartedness to the therapeutic process to create an environment where you feel seen, supported, and able to sustain the hard work. You are more than just your pain and past experiences. In therapy, you should have space to express all aspects of who you are.
