MIND BODY SOULUTIONS
AN INDEPENDENT COUNSELING PRACTICE

Kaylee Johnson, LLMSW
Taking the first step of reaching out to a therapist can feel daunting. Whether you have had something unspeakable happen and know you need extra support during this time, or are in a place to do deeper internal work, I always aim to create an accepting place that meets client’s where they are at. As a client-centered therapist, I believe that us humans are complex and require unique support tailored to our own experiences and goals. My hope as a mental health professional is to create a safe, supportive environment for clients to feel empowered and know they are not alone.

I work with children and adults using cognitive behavioral therapy, parts work, mindfulness, TF-CBT, and play therapy techniques. I believe in holistic approaches, examining and working with the different identities that make clients who they are, within the systems they interact with.

An analogy I often use with client’s to explain my therapeutic approach is to imagine we are in a car together on a road trip. The client is in the driver seat, steering the wheel and pumping the gas or the brakes when needed, while I am in the passenger seat helping navigate which turns to take to get to our destination, playing the music, and letting you know if I see a car in the lane we are trying to get over to. My hope is that this analogy provides you with a sense of autonomy over what your therapeutic experience looks like, while also having an encouraging, supportive person next to you throughout the journey.
My Story
Kaylee’s interest in the mental health field first began when she took a psychology class in highschool, with a passionate teacher whose excitement for the topic made her passionate as well. She majored in psychology and minored in ethics in her undergraduate degree. She started working in psychology research labs focusing on disparities in the medical system and chronic pain challenges, but knew she wanted more direct collaboration with clients. This led her to pursue her Master’s in Social Work at Western Michigan University, where she also earned a certificate in Mindfulness and Centering Skills. During her MSW, she gained experience working in a residential substance use disorder unit, facilitating groups and working individually with client’s in recovery. She also gained private practice experience being an intern here at Mind Body Soulutions.

Outside of work, Kaylee enjoys drinking good coffee, making pottery, reading a good book, and snuggling with her cats. She prioritizes connecting with the people and activities that bring her joy, being intentional about doing the same things that she works with clients to do in their lives.

Kaylee is passionate about working with children and adults who are experiencing complicated grief, anxiety, depression, navigating challenging relationship dynamics, and healing from emotionally abusive relationships. She enjoys working with people to have more self-compassion and self-efficacy to take back control over their story.
